Air filters are your air conditioner’s best friend
The filter removes particles and contaminants that could otherwise cause damage to your AC unit’s compressor. You should change the air filter every three months, or more often to optimize efficiency. With the help of an air filter, the air conditioner can continue functioning, keeping your house cool for twice as long as the lifetime it would have without the filter.
Step 1: Turn the unit off
Any time you are going to perform any kind of maintenance on any appliance, this is the first step toward keeping yourself safe in the process. And don’t worry, changing the air filter will be so quick, your AC unit won’t be off long enough to let the house heat up.
Step 2: Remove the filter
In most AC units, the air filter can be found in the return air duct. This is where the air is being drawn from the room into the cooling unit, so when the air conditioner is on, you won’t feel air coming from it. Step 3: Clean or replace the filter
