Improve Your Self-Sufficiency with Upgrades to Your Plumbing

Bandera, TX is full of independent folks, like a lot of places in our great state. We come from a long line of frontiersmen, and self-sufficiency is something we pride ourselves on. Believe it or not, that can translate to specific aspects of your household, such as the plumbing and electrical systems. If you get your water from a private well or similar source off of the civic water system, there are a number of things you can do to help maintain that independence. We’ve broken down a couple of them for your perusal below.

Get Your Well Water Tested Regularly

Civic systems have safeguards to prevent bacterial contamination and other problems from infiltrating your plumbing. The best way to prevent that in a private system is to get it tested regularly by a trained plumber to ensure that nothing has gotten into your plumbing. If you don’t have a water filtration system installed, that’s probably a good idea too, since it will keep your water clean of bacteria, animal leavings and other unwanted components, but regular testing can help you identify specific recurring problems that you can then address.

Look into Rainwater Collection

Rainwater is an excellent renewable source of water for your home, though it has to be collected and properly treated to become potable. Back in the day, that used to mean just a good set of gutters and a barrel. But here in the 21st century, we can do a little better. A rainwater collection system is not only an efficient way of capturing rain water for your use, but properly filtering it and ensuring that it’s potable. When applied over time, it can make a huge difference not only in getting you water, but improving the self-sufficiency of your home.
