The time has come! Your old heat pump needs to be swapped out for a new one. Or perhaps you’ve had an air conditioner, and now that it’s on its last legs, you’re choosing a heat pump to replace it. That’s an excellent plan — you’ll really benefit from the efficient heating as well as having a top-notch new system to keep you cool for the summer.
But what do you need to do? It’s probably been ten or twelve years since you had your old system installed, or perhaps you purchased your home with that system already in place. Well, we do this every day, so we’re happy to help simplify the process for you. Here’s a handy heat pump replacement checklist. It covers all the most important things to keep in mind for your new heat pump installation.
1: Choose a Heat Pump With Professional Guidance
Don’t just pick something out from an online retailer and hope it’s what you need. Getting a heat pump that’s too large or too small for your home will lead to inefficiency and frequent repair needs. A qualified HVAC expert can assess the square footage and layout of your home and guide you toward the best options for maximizing your comfort and keeping your energy bills low.
2: Schedule Professional Installation
This is not a DIY job! You need professional heat pump installers to make sure it’s done exactly right. Shoddy installation is one of the leading causes of heat pump repair needs and shortened system lifespans. You’ll also want them to take a look at your ductwork and make sure it’s in reasonable condition before your installation appointment.
3: Clear the Day
Make sure you don’t have anything else on your schedule for the day of your heat pump installation. As long as you don’t need ductwork replacement or any other major modifications, the installation should be a one-day process. How much of the day will it take? Somewhere between four and eight hours. But we’ll help you speed it up!
4: Clear the Way
The first thing your installation techs will need to do when they arrive is make sure space is cleared in all the areas they’ll be moving through or working in. You can make this quick and easy by doing it ahead of time! From the parking spot to the door, from the parking spot to the outdoor unit, and from the door to the indoor unit, make sure nothing is in the way or underfoot, and there’s plenty of room to move.
Around the indoor unit, clear a wide area for the installers to work. Around the outdoor unit, trim back plants, rake away leaf litter, and make sure there’s nothing they might trip over. When your installers arrive, they’ll be able to get straight to work!
5: Protect Your Pets
Not only can this process be a bit stressful for pets, your pets can be an adorable distraction to the installers and slow things down! Right before the installation techs arrive, shut your pets somewhere safe and out of the way.
Now you know exactly what to do! All that’s left is to enjoy your new heat pump in Kerrville, TX.
