Get Ready for Furnace Replacement

an-old-furnace-badly-in-need-of-replacement

Is it time for a new furnace? When that day arrives, it’s likely been many years—perhaps fifteen or twenty—since the last time you’ve gone through the process of having a furnace installed. You might have some questions.

Well, we haven’t gone years between furnace installations. We do them every day! We’re happy to help you prepare for your furnace replacement appointment with a quick and easy checklist.

1 – Scheduling

If there’s going to be any sort of major complication to your installation, such as needing to have ductwork replaced, or getting your home connected to your local natural gas company’s lines, you will know about it in advance. These are the sorts of things that can cause a heating system installation to be a multi-day process.

Otherwise, you should clear a single day for your furnace replacement. It might take as much as eight hours or so from start to finish. However, it might take a lot less. It could even be done in just four hours!

2 – Home Preparation

How can you increase the odds of a quick installation process? By doing some of the work yourself first! When your technicians arrive, they will prepare the area before they can begin removing your old furnace and bringing the new one in. The more prepared you already are, the less time they’ll spend on this part of the installation.

Begin by considering where the technicians should park, and which door they will be able to most easily maneuver equipment through. Make sure there’s a clear path for them, with no bicycles or birdbaths for them to bump into or trip over.

Then, make sure there’s a clear path through the house, from the door to the area where the furnace is. Tidy away any decor items, breakables, or clutter, clear the floor, and move any furniture that would make it hard to bring the old furnace out and the new furnace in.

In addition to allowing elbow room for the technicians as they move the equipment, make sure there’s a lot of space in the area where they’ll be doing the actual installation. Your furnace should have about five feet of clear space around it, to reduce the risk of fire, so this is a good thing to do anyway.

3 – Consider Your Pets

We love pets. This is part of the reason why you should keep them secured in a spot that’s well away from where the technicians will be! It’s far too easy to waste time petting or playing with curious and friendly critters. We would also hate to allow an indoor cat to slip out the door, or step on a puppy paw that got underfoot. Your installation will be quicker and easier and your pets will be safer if they’re not in the area.

4 – Prepare Your Questions

Once the new furnace is in position and connected, your technicians will turn it on and let it run for several minutes, to make sure everything is working perfectly. This is a great time to ask any questions you may have about how to use your furnace, tips for boosting efficiency, what maintenance the system will require, how to change the air filters, and more. Jot your questions down in advance so you won’t forget!

Now you should be all ready for your furnace replacement in Boerne, TX. If you do have any other questions to ask in advance, don’t hesitate to reach out.
